IN MEMORIAM

SYLVIA WINSTEIN
March 17, 1919* - March 27, 2009

Sylvia Winstein passed away on Friday, March 27, 2009.  Born on March 17, 1919*, she was FWC's 50th President serving from 1970-1972.  She attended FWC General Meetings and was a highly regarded member of the Galleries and Sights, Let's Do Lunch and Movies and Discussion sections, all of which, after her stroke, she often attended with her wonderful caretakers Terry Cruz, Marta Daniel, and Lucy Webster.

The Sylvia Winstein UCLA Emeriti Arts and Crafts Exhibit was named in her honor several years ago as a result of her dedicated and talented service for many years as Chair and Exhibit Designer.  Sylvia was an enthusiastic collector of all kinds of art show offerings.

Sylvia was a UCLA undergraduate.  In later life, she became an active participant in the life of UCLA's Chemistry Department.  Her husband, Saul Winstein, UCLA Professor of Chemistry, preceded her in death in 1969.  The Winsteins had two children, son Bruce is a Professor of Physics at the University of Chicago, and daughter Carolee is a Professor of Biokinesiology and Physical Therapy at the University of Southern California.  A memorial service for Sylvia is being planned for the near future at the UCLA Faculty Center.
