The FWC annually awards scholarships, including need- and merit-based undergraduate awards, as well as several merit-based awards to graduate students. FWC scholarships have grown from a single award of $25.00 in the 1920s to up to $1,300-$2,500 in 2006-2007. Contributions from members and friends are deposited with the UCLA Foundation; the interest earned on these funds is used for the FWC scholarship awards.
We encourage members and friends to remember loved ones with a gift to the UCLA FWC Scholarship Program. Memorial scholarships in a loved one's honor may be established with a minimum donation of $1,500.
It is very easy to make a donation. . .just download the Scholarship Fund Donation Form and mail it with your contribution to FWC, P.O. Box 49363, Los Angeles, CA 90049-0363. Please make check payable to UCLA Foundation/FWC Scholarship Fund. If you have any questions, please e-mail FWC at uclafwc@ucla.edu with Scholarships as the subject.
Contributions are tax deductible to the extent of the law.
Please note
A new law was passed in 2006, called "Tax Free IRA Distribution to Charities."
"Individuals aged 70 1/2 and older can distribute up to $100,000 of their IRA balance to charitable organizations in 2006 and 2007 without recognizing income and without taking a charitable deduction. The distribution counts towards the required minimum distribution."
Establishing an endowed scholarship fund in honor or memory of someone would be a wonderful way to benefit a deserving student for many years to come. Please consult your tax advisor to verify how this will affect your particular situation.
FWC appreciates and thanks you for your generous support.
Information about how to apply for a FWC Scholarship will be available on the website in Spring 2007.
